Dentro de un año, se lanzarán a nivel mundial los nuevos Dominios de nivel superior genéricos (gTLDs), que se agregarán a los similares .ORG, .COM y .NET. Entre los nuevos gTLDs propuestos, se encuentra .ONG/.NGO. El dominio .ONG/.NGO será exclusivo de organizaciones no gubernamentales de los ámbitos local y mundial, que buscan avanzar en sus misiones o inspirar a sus comunidades. El dominio .ONG/.NGO le proporcionará reconocimiento inmediato a aquellas organizaciones que persigan una causa y generen un impacto positivo. Public Interest Registry (PIR) es la organización sin fines de lucro que administra las extensiones .ORG ―el dominio que ha servido a las comunidades sin fines de lucro durante más de 25 años―, lo que la convierte en la elección natural para la administración del dominio .ONG/.NGO.
